Stains on democracy

As my dear brother pointed out this morning if you invented a story about a former PM not being able to vote because he didn’t understand the law he had introduced to rig elections for his party, no one would believe you.

But Mr. Johnson is just the gift that keeps on giving.

How ignorant, lazy and entitled do you have to be to make a mistake like that? We know that Mr Johnson has never thought that the laws applied to him and now we have even more proof.

A buffoon with a bladder on the end of a stick would have worked this one out, our illustrious elder statesman, former PM, and top journalist, well, not quite.

Apparently he turned up with a letter with his name and address on it and we can only assume with a security detail of armed police officers all of whom could have sworn on oath that he was who he said he was.

But no, the law is blind, the statute is clear, no photo ID no vote.

All of which, unfortunately, takes away from the fact that this legislation was introduced in a deeply cynical and shameless attempt to suppress the Labour vote.

It was and is a stain on our democracy, but then so is Boris Johnson and he is still with us too.
