Spinning for Britain
The news that the EC will offer a compromise on British food entering Northern Ireland has already been spun to death. Apparently Boris has “triumphed” and is “top dog in the sausage war”.
Strange because I thought the UK had a whole list of demands and reasons why the NIP was totally unworkable, an affront to the UK and should be torn up, certainly the DUP do and the government did yesterday.
But apparently an EC compromise on technical details is a triumph and a total victory.
So has the whole mess has been solved? Really? The UK has no more demands, all is well in Northern Ireland, the NIP is now perfect, the role of the ECJ is fine, checks at the border are OK, Brussels has been defeated?
Sure, I trust the government, it is all over and the UK won everything. It has to label all the food concerned as “for sale in the UK only” but that is the only problem sorted.
Strange that it was such a huge issue, that was discussed at the Conservative Conference, that Brexiteers blood pressure reached dangerous levels. It was all about a few sausages.
Any one like to bet on when the NIP is back in the headlines?
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
