Speak to the hand
The EC is banning officials from having any meetings with their UK counterparts unless they are about Ukraine or are mandatory.
That is it, no nice chats over coffee, no feelers about what might be possible, no unofficial or official link ups to highlight issues; nothing.
It would be nice to think this was just some posturing by Brussels but on the other hand the EU might be saying, “there is absolutely no point in talking to you, unless it is absolutely essential because you are just wasting our time.”
The NIP, the delayed checks at the border, the petty insults and vainglorious posing, the “we must never have anything to do with Brussels ever” briefings, on everything from data to defence get noticed.
The government can say and do all those things but if it does the EU can just ignore the UK, stick to the letter of the law and the small print of the agreements and get on with its serious business.
After all; time, power and the law are all on its side.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
