So the Rwanda Bill is now law and the government is going full steam ahead to try to deport as many people as possible before an election. Hiring hundreds of staff, freeing up judges and court space, booking flights and airports.

All in the hope that being utter shits to asylum seekers will win it votes. Let’s not fool ourselves it os nothing else but an attempt to win the votes of the bigots, racists and gammons. The fact that several members of the ERG voted against the plan suggests they don’t think it will go far enough and therefore it is unlikely to work.

But just to try this government is willing to declare Rwanda a “safe” country, shackle the courts, restrict human rights law and deport those who helped us in Afghanistan.

All this in order to stop some boats that were not a problem pre Brexit and which could be dealt with by negotiating with France and running the asylum system properly.

To try to win an election the Tory party of Winston Churchill, is whoring the country it pretends to love.

Gone are decades of decency, the rule of law, empathy, sympathy, justice and leading by example.

And as the government knows this will make no difference at all to immigration or asylum seeking.

A reputation lost is never regained. For this mess of potage we have sold our birthright.
