Smaller market, less power
The UK makes up 2.4% of global health spending and the EU 22%, guess where pharmaceutical giants are registering their new drugs first?
The idea that the UK could set up its own Medical agency to check and register new drugs and it would do anything but play second fiddle to the EU medical agency was always for the birds.
The claim that the UK rolled out the Covid vaccine first and fastest is not supported by any evidence and is in fact a lie.
The. European Medicines Agency even had to leave the UK as a result of Brexit. Just a few hundred extra jobs lost to the British economy, but a huge amount of influence, experience, expertise and kudos went with it.
Big pharma goes where the money is, so do its influencers and lobbyists, its lawyers and regulation experts. .
On top of all that medicines now have to be checked, evaluated and approved twice, once in the EU and once in the UK.
Just another bit of grit in the machine, another minor lose, more not less red tape and less not more power in the world.
And does anyone care or worry about this? No, the lies trump the truth, the biggest cost of all.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
