I once went for a ski holiday in Italy and the next year one in France. It was only when we were sitting in a very familiar looking bar half way up a mountain that I realised we had skied into Italy and to the same resort as the previous year.
What freedom and with a British ski guide too. But now things have changed.
The FT has a fun article about how British ski instructors can no longer work in the EU, unless they have a work permit for each country they might visit. They are not easy to get, many very experienced instructors have been turned down and the red tape is huge. In the future it looks like the French will make UK instructors take French ski tests, in French.
Who knew? Well everybody knew but the idiots who negotiated the UK’s exit did not even ask for equivalence for qualifications like skiing. Or much else really.
Covid has hidden the damage that will cause as we all stayed home. But thousands of UK citizens have had their livelihood removed or damaged not by Brexit but by an appallingly badly managed Brexit.
And that is just the ski instructors, there are thousands of other jobs which will be similarly hit. As we will soon see.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
Good news for Irish ski instructors.
