Show us the money...
Those trade deals just keep on coming, the UK has signed one with Israel now, very welcome. Although I do seem to remember we had one with Israel when we were in the EU.
The level of exports and imports which will now flow as a result will be huge, or small or worse or non existent, we don’t know because the UK government is not bothering to release its assessment of the deal’s value.
A sign of a total underwhelming sense of confidence from the government, you might think, and yet the Tory party has said that the new post Brexit trade deals its government has signed are worth £800 billion.
Of course, that figure was slapped down by the UKSA as totally misleading, but what do they know? While the OBR pointed out 6 years ago that the hit to the economy of 4-6% was based on calculating both the cost of worsening trade with the EU and the benefits of new deals.
This one is therefore already in those calculations as are all the rest.
The shameless chutzpah with which the government distorts and lies is bad enough because it is a deliberate attempt to mislead the nation. But it also means they must know they are lying, that the policy is appalling damaging and they could do something about it.
But they don’t.
The lies just get bigger and bigger, as the damage grows.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
