An interesting comment on line caught my eye this morning. Why after the terrible Southport attack were there no racist riots in Scotland?
The answer is that unlike England they have not had 30 years of right wing press barons whipping up fear and hatred, stoking anti-immigrant sentiment, blaming foreigners for all the working classes’ problems and then standing back and saying that the real voice of the people is not being listened to.
Reform is the result in England, that and a Tory party that is a pale shadow of its former self, where the heavy weights have left or been driven out and which is desperately trying to out do the far right.
The Tories rode the Tiger of populism for the last 40 years and it is now eating them. They deserve all that and more, someone else will have to clean up their mess.
