Santa and Stats....
Having read several pro Brexit commentaries recently on what a triumph the first year of Brexit has been. I have a little Xmas gift for the statistically challenged. Those who think an increasing amount of trade with non EU countries is a sign of success.
If you have 5 sausage rolls and 5 mince pies, 50% of your food is made up of mince pies and 50% is made up of sausage rolls.
If you stupidly, blindly, irresponsibly and against all expert advice throw away, destroy or lose one of the mince pies, you are worse off. Because you only have 9 pieces of food left.
Statistically things have changed as well, you now have 9 pieces of food, 5 sausage rolls and 4 mince pieces, meaning that sausage rolls make up 55.5% of your food.
To a Brexiteer this is an economic miracle, behold Brexit has increased the percentage of sausage rolls.
In the spirit of Christmas goodwill I will not comment any further on the mindset which leads people to such conclusions.
Here endeth the lesson and a Merry Xmas to us all.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
