Salting fields
I remember being told once that if you thought the British retreat from empire was petty and nasty you should have seen what other countries did. They took home or destroyed everything they could, left behind chaos and debts and if they could have salted the fields they would have.
Which brings us to the Tory party. They have decided that new homes will have to be built in inner city areas, and accused Labour of wanting to “concrete over” the countryside- all of it as far as I can tell. They have also accused Labour of being in league with corrupt lawyers and criminal gangs over immigration.
Meanwhile the Chancellor’s room for manoeuvre in the coming budget is being limited by the rising costs of the Bank of England’s bail out of the economy.
Just another £50 billion, nothing to see here. With a recession on the cards, disastrously low growth a certainty and the country crumbling around its ears, the Tory cabinet has plenty to be getting on with but strangely has so little business that the House of Commons has nothing to do even when it is sitting. Although there is always time to tear up international law, wreck the country’s reputation and organise the illegal deportation of asylum seekers.
It is almost like they are deliberately wrecking the place, to make life tougher for the next government.
It almost makes you want to see them win the next election.
The look on their faces.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
