Running faster
Hurray, at last.
Waitrose is going to open 100 convenience stores, new supermarkets and refurbishing its existing properties and about bloody time.
I mean, have you been to one of the new Marks and Sparks food halls? The design, lay out, product range, colour schemes and signage are cutting edge, welcoming and attractive.
Waitrose all of sudden looks tired, old, boring and still expensive. It has to react.
It also has all the problems associated with being smaller than most of its rivals, more expensive and if my local store is anything to go by, with serious distribution problems.
The retail market is changing all the time and changing very quickly. Waitrose is going to have to run just to stand still.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
