Right to strike?
Given that the strikes this month are nothing like at the level of the 1970’s or 80’s you might think that the government’s reaction, to virtually end the right to strike, is a bit OTT.
But it is obvious that ministers see this as a chance to blame the unions for their faults. I am not sure it will work.
The rail system especially in the North of England is a farce, the queues of ambulances that cannot get into A+E is huge, there is a shortage of nurses as many leave for better paid jobs, GP appointments are like hens’ teeth.
You cannot blame any of that on the unions, it is solely the fault of a completely incompetent government that has run down public services across the country and in almost every area.
Just a few months ago the government found the money to give huge tax cuts to anyone earning over £150,000 pa, now it cannot find the money to get the trains to run on time, pay nurses enough to avoid food banks or meet the government’s own target for ambulance waiting times.
Banning the right to strike is nothing less than a deeply cynical attempted diversion tactic.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
