Quo Vadis?
The Tory party is splitting into ever smaller factions, with at least 5 on the far right of the party, now even cooperating to hold the Cabinet’s feet to the fire. There is a huge chasm between its leaders who are trying to act tough to appease them and the far right groupings, who are challenging their leader and his team with rebellion after rebellion because they want to take over the party.
Rebellions that will mean breaking international law, nobbling the courts, destroying the Windsor Framework, ending cooperation with the EU on law and order, and possibly ending the free trade deal with Brussels.
But where is the outrage, the condemnation, the criticism of the PM as a pathetic weakling, led by extremists to disastrous national policies?
One back bench Labour MP could get more publicity than this, Sir Keir Starmer would be a dead man walking if one tenth of this happened in the Labour party and that is when Labour is in opposition.
This is a government with a healthy majority held to ransom by the swivel eyed loons, the closet racists, the xenophobes and bigots.
All for a scheme that we all know can never work, is no deterrence and costs a fortune for no gain, besmirches our good name and our example and reputation. But which is the lunatic dream of the far right nutters who would rather drag their party into the political wilderness if it means they can take it over. Who are using this as an excuse to leave the ECHR, who still dream of a no deal Brexit and who want to be leader of the Conservatives, no matter how nasty and incompetent they are.
Meanwhile the appeasers appease. It is all they can do, they will not face down the extremists not least because they know they have the support of the party members.
But anyone with the slightest knowledge of history knows where appeasement leads. The Tories should know better than anyone what is going to happen.
They won the last election because Boris Johnson was willing to sell the party’s soul to the devil and go for the UKIP votes, the support of the racists and the bigots.
There is a reason no one else ever did that, why Enoch Powell was thrown out for even suggesting such a ploy. Because those who had fought in the Second World War and lived through the 1930’s knew what happens when countries do that.
The tories are heading ever rightward, they have no choice, it is where the Tiger is going and they are along for the ride and so is the country.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
