Questions not to ask
The first rule barristers are taught is apparently, don’t ask a question you don’t know the answer to, or you don’t want the jury to hear the answer to?
“Why should the jury believe you when you say my client shot Big Vinny?”
“Because I filmed it on this phone”
Which brings us to Liz Truss, who apparently has a spending and tax plan so cunning and brilliant she doesn’t need to check it with the OBR. The body especially set up to check the government’s economic calculations, to give them credibility.
Economic and political experts from left and right of the spectrum know full well the figures don’t add up and are warning her very loudly that they don’t add up. Therefore this decision, to not use the skills of the Office for Budget Responsibility, stinks to high heaven. She knows the answer so is afraid to ask it.
It also sets a terrible precedent, Ms. Truss has already made it clear she doesn’t like independent scrutiny or analysis.
But like a child who thinks you can’t see it, if they close their eyes, this pathetic failure to accept reality is doomed to fail.
Is she going to be a worse PM than Johnson?
No, don’t answer that one.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
