Like many freelancers I have set up my own company Jonty Bloom Media, with a website and everything; it is very easy really. But what is not so easy is making sense of the letter every company got from the UK government in the last few days about how to prepare for Brexit.
It basically sends you to a website <GOV.UK/ACTION-2021> which is full of endless bits of advice on every industry, it is complicated and does not necessarily make it easy to plan for Brexit. So for instance look at this advice on CE standards, the mark on every manufactured good which means you can sell it anywhere in the EU and many other places too.
“From 1 January 2021 any mandatory conformity assessment will need to be carried out by an EU-recognised conformity assessment body.”
So you will have to arrange to have all your goods tested and validated by an EU body outside the UK because:
“UK conformity assessment bodies will no longer be able to carry out mandatory conformity assessment for products being placed on the EU market unless agreed in negotiations.”
The word “unless” is carrying a lot of weight there, because it means if there is a deal in the next six weeks you might not have to change anything at all and you’ll have totally wasted your time and money.
Good luck planning for that.
