PR and P&O Ferries
Oh, to be a fly on the wall when P&O’s management have that first meeting with the PR firms. You know, the ones that specialise in emergencies and damage limitation, loss of reputation and the wilful destruction of corporate image. The ones that charge millions and try desperately to pull your irons from the fire. .
Except, to be thick skinned enough to think this was sensible, let alone acceptable, probably means that you are incapable of seeing what you have done, which will make the PR companies jobs even more difficult.
Where would you start?
The obvious thing to do is not to talk to the monkeys but to the organ grinder, go straight to DP World, the owners of P&O Ferries.
You persuade them this will damage P&O Ferries almost beyond repair and their reputation as well. But they have the advantage of being able to claim that they were unaware of the original decision and were as shocked as the rest of us.
Then you throw money at the problem.
It is the easy option but not for the board of P&O.
Which is sad, as they are obviously a lovely bunch of people.
