Post Brexit chaos
The letters page of the FT is not normally that riveting but yesterday’s was. It contained a letter from David Mcredmond the head of the Irish post office.
He points out that the Royal Mail/Post Office in Great Britain is failing to comply with post Brexit customs rules on goods sent through the mail and as a result his organisation is returning thousands of parcels, mainly from SMEs undelivered every day.
As a result "Trade from Great Britain to Ireland through postal channels has fallen by 52% in one year"
Not only that but this new system becomes mandatory for all EU states next year.
All the government has to do is to tell Royal Mail to follow the rules but the “UK government seems uninterested.”
Even when there is a problem with a simple solution this government does nothing.
Typical.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
