Pity the French, they won
I see that the comfortable victory of President Macron is in fact a disaster for him, France and the EU. That France and the Franco-German alliance is one its knees and the EU seconds away from collapse, again.
Yet at the same time the victory for Macron means that France and the EU will continue to bully the UK, pick fights that the UK cannot possibly win, makes compromise impossible and ensures that the Northern Ireland Protocol and in fact the whole TCA needs to be torn up because the UK can never renegotiate it from a position of weakness.
I also notice that many of these apparently contradictory claims often appear in pieces by the same authors, in the same papers and sometimes within the same articles.
Even if the individual writers believe this stuff and their editors feel compelled to print it does no one, at the morning editorial meeting, point out that there is some intellectual inconsistency in the message?
H. E. Bateman where are you when we need you?
“The junior researcher who mentioned the contradictions on the front page.”
I’d pay to see that cartoon.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
