One last visit to Brussels
So Boris Johnson is to visit Brussels, a city he knows very well having lived there as a child. This time he is not going to visit old school friends but to talk to the EC in an attempt to find a deal or at least to make it look like he did everything in his power to get a deal.
His problem is that if he does get a deal it is going to involve compromises over fishing, the level playing field and enforcement. Probably these will be what the vast majority of experts and people will think are perfectly reasonable compromises.
Unfortunately for the PM there are dozens of MPs from his own party who think any compromise is treason. He can have a deal or their votes but not both. I still think he wants their votes more, after all Tory Prime ministers since John Major have bent over backwards to keep them in the tent.
