Yesterday I highlighted some dire economics by Michael Gove but today I shall popint out what he has got right.
The news that the Dublin government will extend the EHIC card to NI residents and also include NI students in the Erasmus scheme made me think. Where would be the best place to invest to take what advantage you can from Brexit? The answer is, Northern Ireland. Not only do you get EHIC and Erasmus (paid by someone else) but your company will be inside the EEA, Customs Union and the Single Market, with some border red tape only between NI and the rest of the UK.
As Michael Gove said earlier this month, “Northern Ireland has got the best of both worlds”. He is absolutely right, it has but of course that means the rest of the UK hasn’t. It also helps explain why the DUP will vote against this deal. Loyalists have always tried to prove their devotion to the UK by being more patriotic than everybody else. Hence they supported Brexit, only to find it has brought them even closer to Dublin and deep within the sphere of EU influence.
