NZ part II
I invite you all to watch the NZ TV report on the trade deal between the UK and its Kiwi cousins. Available online, it is a hoot. Apparently they got everything they wanted and the UK was stitched up like a kipper.
Even allowing for a little patriotic spin doctoring this is quite a claim, and backed up by the report quoting the UK’s own appraisal of the deal, which comes to pretty much the same conclusion.
But then when Johnny No Mates tries to make friends at any cost much the same happens.
The NFU, which follows these things rather closely, must be in despair. If this is the kind of deal the UK signs with NZ, what will happen to UK farming when it signs similar deals with South Africa, Argentina, Brazil and the US?
Such countries have seen how desperate the UK is for deals and will apply pressure accordingly. Strangely that doesn’t happen to the EU.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
