Not the godmother
We all know that when politicians make it to the top they have to take their friends, allies and supporters with them. But it is normal to at least make a nod to re-uniting the party and bringing your opponents back on board.
Liz Truss is going the other way, Sunak is dead to her and so are his backers. She has surrounded herself with ERG members, allies and far right thinkers.
She is obviously not a fan of The Godfather movies where “you keep your friends close and your enemies closer.”
It is, to be frank, a petty, stupid and risky strategy. She has limited her available advice to a small group of like minded fools and she thinks having only yes men and women around her is how to run a cabinet and a country.
This is the exact opposite of what a sensible, balanced, talented government looks like. It is the latest version of the idealogical clique that has taken over the country.
When there is only one answer whatever the question, only identical advice whatever the issue, you are riding for a fall.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
