Oh Dear, it is almost as if President Trump doesn’t know what he is doing. He is playing the hokey pokey with international trade. One hour there are going to be tariffs on America’s largest trade partners, then there are going to be larger tariffs on the same countries, then they are suspended, again.
Doubtless the President thinks he is being clever, let’s face it he always thinks he is clever, and that he is keeping everybody off balance, scared of his next move, unable to respond or react to his illogical actions.
In fact he is making a complete mess of the whole idea, no one knows what the plan is, because there isn’t one beyond the President’s latest late night spasm. The deterrent effect of threatening tariffs is undermined each time he gets near his mobile phone and the markets are in a turmoil because they have no idea what is happening.
These are the consequences of those fascist idiots who believe in “moving fast and destroying things”, that there is such a thing as creative destruction. As if undermining your own government’s ability, institutions and reputation is somehow guaranteed to make things better. It is just the fantasy of billionaire idiots who love Ayn Rand because they think they are supermen.
Talking of books, it is telling that at least one of those believers has his own space programme because creative destruction and their own space programme have been the hall marks of quite a few Bond villains, oh and world domination, let’s not forget world domination.
Maybe we all should have read Ian Fleming a bit more carefully, certainly Trump should have. Bond villains are not famous for their stupidity, inconsistency, dithering, weak willed, and attention seeking inadequacy.
But then Trump is unlikely to achieve world domination, in fact he is rapidly bringing American hegemony to its knees, he is just to dumb to realise it.

Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
Hokey Pokey? Ice cream?
Hokey Cokey? Popular party dance?
Ps just posting to show I’m paying attention!
Otherwise, spot on. The key thing about disowning a deal agreed by Trump 1.0, and unilaterally imposing punitive tariffs in what was a free trade area, is you can only do it once. If you then offer to rescind or pause the tariffs, the counter party knows what’s happening. And so do the markets.
The day Trump appears in the Oval Office stroking a pussy cat I will accept your analogy. Until that day I will continue to believe he is a genius, (not a lot of people know that, it’s true)
