Not in your back yard, either.
So we have a new acronym NIYBY, not in your back yard. The PM has collapsed and kowtowed to his own back benchers and withdrawn proposals to impose house building targets on local government.
The rebellion was led by mainly southern Tory MPs from prosperous areas, where locals are dyed in the wool Nimby’s. But by forcing this pathetically weak PM to retreat they have stopped compulsory targets across the country.
Councils everywhere will breath a sigh of relief knowing they won’t have to make decisions that are unpopular with existing home owners, even if the homeless, renters and the economy desperately need many more homes.
Shameless, cynical, selfish, stupid and amazingly cowardly.
NIYBY is now what passes for the UK’s national housing policy. You would have thought it was difficult to make the UK’s housing system worse but this government has managed it.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
