Not again?
I see that the Chancellor is planning to extend help to home buyers, probably by prolonging the help to buy scheme. This is basically a state backed guarantee so that mortgage lenders will lend more to first time buyers.
It also has the complete opposite of its stated aim which is to help people to buy a home because all that happens is that house prices rise to take account of the easier mortgage terms. This means massive profits for homebuilders and home owners who are selling, and higher prices for those buying.
It is hard to think of a worse way of throwing tax payers money away, or filling the boots of house builders. The obvious answer is to take the money committed and spend it on building houses.
I know a radical policy, head in the clouds thinking, a stupid intervention in the free market, cementing over the green belt.
But somehow, unlike this Chancellor and his government, I believe in supply and demand.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
