No more Mr. nice Guy
When people are stupid enough to show you what they are really like believe them.
The groups of Tory MPs, members and commentators trying to force out Rishi Sunak are doing it for just one reason, they don’t think he is going far enough. In short he is not nasty enough.
They are at heart Trussites, they really do think that slashing taxation brings in more tax revenue, and that the state needs to do far less. Self contradictory positions, it is true, but then then they are on a messianic mission and logic is not their strong point.
Nor is caring for others less fortunate than themselves. As their writings have shown for years they truly think the poor are just lazy and need to be forced to work harder, if you can’t feed your children then you should not have had children, the state is in crisis because it is impossible to afford the NHS, education, social care, child benefits and all the rest.
Why should the rich pay for the indolent and feckless?
Universal credit was their Trojan horse, children now have rickets, food banks are everywhere, you cannot survive on benefits now. Schools are collapsing because the Tories stopped repairing them 14 years ago, the gap between private and state schools is widening, the UK has been bottom of the G7’s infrastructure spending league table for 4 decades.
The idea that a few years in opposition will allow the one nation Tories to reclaim their party is for the birds. They lost, when they lost the Brexit referendum. The Trump supporting, Enoch Powell loving, xenophobic, little englanders are going to be in the vast majority after the next election.
If you want to see their dream of the future just look at Liz Truss’s time in No. 10.
Next time there will be no party grandees to show the PM the door, the ultras will have taken over, they have tried incremental steps to their own nasty nirvana, next time there will be no more Mr. Nice Guy.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
