Nice work
With beautiful timing into my email inbox has popped the latest list of available jobs, including the new head of Media and External Relations for Ofgem.
What a time to join and what a job interview. Can you please explain why UK gas prices are so much higher than the rest of Europe? Why did Ofgem let more competition in the gas market without insuring the companies had a business model that could survive a gas price hike? What happened to all that gas storage, designed to smooth out market fluctuations?
On that last one I see that the Business Secretary says the UK doesn’t need storage as we have so many different sources of supply. Which is not much of a safety net if all the sources prices are rising, as they do in an international market. Not a very business savvy business secretary.
This is the point at which some stored gas to return to the market and smooth out the fluctuations would be nice. But the UK doesn’t have that option, it and its companies have to pay market rates when they are soaring.
Another triumph for UK short-termism, good luck to the new media chief at Ofgem in explaining that one.
