Seeing the Brexit ultras cheering the victory of Orban in Hungary and then actively calling for Le Pen to win in France really is amazing.
If, of course, you think the EU is an evil empire that must be destroyed at any cost, this might make sense. But the best that can be said for such an outcome is that Europe would return to the situation in the early 1950s.
The far more likely outcome is a return to the 1930s. With Putin already reliving that dream you might, at the very least, think that electing his friends in important countries would be a step too far. But apparently it isn’t.
What it really tells you is that those utterly obsessed with Brexit see the EU as a bigger threat than Russia, would rather enhance Putin’s chances and his reach than see a united EU, and want to return to a continent of rival states which started two world wars in 30 years. Some, presumably, want Ukraine to lose.
We know that they don’t seem to think the EU is a force for peace in Europe, despite all the evidence. But even common sense would teach you this lesson.
The one invading a peaceful, democratic, European neighbour murdering children, and committing war crimes is your enemy, as are his friends.
It’s difficult to think that hatred of the Common Agricultural Policy would trump that, but for some it apparently does.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
Really Jonty? What is sad is that you believe this - I didn't cheer either Marine or Viktor. I don't wish evil on anyone but I have a vote and I will use it as I see fit even if you in a democracy clearly don't like it.
According to the UK Media the EU (wisely as a force for peace) banned member countries arms sales to Russia, since Crimea in 2014. It is reported in the press 10 EU states including France did not respect that embargo. What is the point about being part of a club if the membership ignore the club rules and regulations.
Oh and the EU sets GDP standards at Maastricht for France for example at a ceiling of 60% and French GDP is now at 115%. What does the EU do to pull the magnificent France into line with what they signed up to? Nothing.
