Murder at the Vicarage.....
I had not known until this weekend that part of the cunning Brexit plan was that supermarket supply chains would crumble, because this will lead to a resurgence of village shops, with milk on sale from the nearest dairy farmer. The local baker, butcher and candlestick maker will be back soon too, no doubt.
It is hard to know what to say really. Except that most of us live nearer to a dozen supermarkets than a single farm.
Likewise Lord Frost is to tell the Tory Party conference that he has a new cunning Northern Ireland Protocol up his sleeve and that he is just going to send it to the EU. Which is fine because it meets all the terms of the original NIP, the one he negotiated 9 months ago. So they will just agree to it.
So sorted, as they say. Or maybe not.
Maybe people buy milk and food in supermarkets because they are convenient, efficient and cheaper than corner shops. Maybe farmers have moved on from delivering a few churns to local shops and maybe the EU has an opinion on a new NIP.
Maybe Murder at the Vicarage is not the basis for sensible political and economic policies. Maybe.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
