Making things worse....
When the Minister for Brexit opportunities can only think of three opportunities, none of which he has discovered, and two of which seem to have nothing to do with Brexit, you know there is a problem.
That problem is that nothing the Brexit campaign claimed was going to happen has happened.
The answer to that problem should be to admit your mistake and change your mind. What the UK will get is an attempt to double down on the crazy bet.
Invoking Article 16 is one way of doing that but there are many others.
All have terrible consequences for the UK, its economy, politics and society.
But this government doesn’t care about that. If it can whip up hatred of the EU and blame it, by lying about the reasons for this mess, it will do that. It will even deliberately make things worse and blame the EU, if that helps keep its fantasies alive.
This is bound to end in a crisis, one the government seems to think it can turn to its advantage.
Not something I would bet on.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
