Over the weekend there was an interesting opinion poll in the Telegraph, not a very good one I assume from its coverage on page 6 or so, but an interesting one none the less.
It showed that Sadiq Kahn was just one point ahead of the Tory candidate, as the Tories try to whip up a panic about ULEZ. A policy one Boris Johnson introduced and which the Tories insisted be extended across London.
Why this matters is because following the narrow victory in Boris Johnson’s old constituency, based on lying about ULEZ, the Tory party turned its back on green policies, in the belief that this is a vote winning strategy.
If it wins in London the gloves will be off, the mad climate change denying gammons will take over the Tory party and its campaign for re-election.
The fact that this would be a disaster for the planet, the country our children and the future, apparently means nothing to the Tory party.
Also the UK is already being snubbed because of the Sunak row backs on green policies, any more would make the UK an international pariah.
But hey, if it means votes who cares.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.

I haven’t seen the poll but presumably much revolves around FPTP and the alternative vote for Green/Lib Dem not being transferable to Sadiq on second round. Regressive politics from all points of view.
