Logical consequence
The Tory party has been telling us all for decades that we can have everything we need from the state and have tax cuts too. The so called logic behind this lie is that the Tories trust people to spend their own money better than the state.
Predictably enough the slow collapse of the NHS caused by years of under investment and deliberate neglect has lead to an outpouring of claims that the “system is broken”, “needs reform”, is a “money pit” and cannot be afforded.
The fact is that it can easily be afforded but a significant percentage of Tories don’t want to find the money, they want to use this crisis as an incentive to destroy the NHS.
The benefits for the Tory party are huge, American health companies will throw gold at them for decades for the right to tear up the NHS, charge American levels of fees, skim off billions in insurance fees and destroy the health of the poor for profit.
Remember America spends twice what we do on health for lower life expectancy. It is the worst health care system imaginable in a developed country.
The Tory party will try to sell the moves to destroy the NHS as reforms or a move to a more successful Continental system as in France of Germany.
But all you need to know about that claim is that such countries consistently spend 2-3% more of their GDP on their health systems than the UK does, and have done for years.
The logical consequence of promising low tax forever is the destruction of universal health care forever.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
