Labour and Brexit
I was pretty unconvinced by Labour’s reason for backing the Brexit deal, because it failed to put clear water between them and the Tories. It also sorely disappointed their remainer minded supporters and tied them to the consequences of the deal.
Not that this has stopped the PM accusing Labour of not supporting the deal when it was his own back benchers who threatened it. The deal in its current form is also ideal for the Tory party, just look at the headlines about the French “surrendering” to Boris’s gunboats and other such jingoistic tosh. A state of continual friction means that Brexit is a gift that just keeps on giving, every problem is down to those beastly Brussels bureaucrats and another good reason why the UK left.
There is no traction for Labour in this quagmire; point out that the Emperor has no clothes and they are unpatriotic, siding with the French, disloyal and appeasing bullies. Support the Government and Mr Johnson gets all the credit.
They will just have to hope that something else pricks the Tory balloon but even if it does it is impossible to see how they can win a general election without a pact with the greens, Lib Dems and SNP. Which is a gift to the Tories once again, they are the English Nats. now and will rule as such.
