Just how bad it is

According to the FT the EU will not even loosen post-Brexit rules which make it so difficult for touring musicians from the UK. It was one of the little asks that Sir Kier Starmer was seeking in order to “reset” our relationship with the continent.

Apparently it could not be done without re-writing the Trade and Cooperation Agreement that we agreed and signed when we left. The one that took years to negotiate and was mishandled by numerous PMs, Brexit Secretaries and negotiators.

It just shows why the original talks mattered so much, there was far more on offer but the infighting and idiocy of the Tory party meant we turned it all down. In the end they were so desperate to get a deal that they sold the country down the river and then won an election campaign on the lie that it was an “oven ready deal”.

When in fact it was a badly put together, uncaring, incompetently negotiated, “fuck business” pile of shite. I see that the page from Dominic Cummings book, where he explains that Boris Johnson as PM was shell shocked to discover what the deal involved, and thought Lord Frost was reading out how bad a no deal would be, is again doing the rounds.

It is well worth a read, it explains very clearly why Sir Anthony Seldon’s claim that Boris Johnson was an even worse PM than Truss is so valid. The ignorant, lazy, liar didn’t know or care what he was doing.

My friends in the music industry will be pulling their hair out but this is not Labour’s fault, the Tories not only negotiated this mess, they signed it and sold it to the country. They even had 4 years to try to correct it and did nothing.

For this alone they deserve not just decades in the political wilderness, but total destruction.
