Poor old Sue Ellen, let down by JR again. Oh no sorry, poor old Suella let down by the Tory party again. She has 10 MPs who are willing to put her name forward but apparently thinks she has no chance of making it through to the final two candidates, so is not standing for leader.
Which is a pity for her, as she is the favourite with the party members. But still she left with a parting shot saying the party’s disastrous election result was down to failures on “migration, taxes and transgender ideology”. “
Yes we all remember transgender ideology being the subject on every doorstep. To be fair taxation was an issue but not in the way she wanted it to be; what most people wanted to know was why are they so high and everything so rubbish. Higher taxes and better public services are normally a vote winner.
On immigration the Tories always promised to be tough and did immense damage trying to get the numbers down. Undermining further education, stripping farms and factories, shops and cafes of staff, being a bastard to care workers, wasting billions on hotels and not processing claims, threatening to deport people to the heart of Africa and leave the ECHR.
Even so they were outmanoeuvred by Reform who won the far right vote by promising the impossible and being even bigger bastards.
And still the candidates for leader think that moving further to the right is the key to success. Well good luck.
Candidates will now line up to say that they will leave the ECHR, but with lots of quiet caveats and crossed fingers. They will take us out “if it means we can secure our borders” or “if it is necessary”. I think the one who will win will be the one who promises to leave come what may. Taking the UK into the same club as Russia and Belarus.
That is how far the Tory party has sunk and I can see no way back. The thugs and bigots of Reform don’t want half measures, the sensible middle of the road Tory voter doesn’t want thugs and bigots.
Only when they have a leader who jumps the right way will they be back as a serious party and their membership which elects the leader doesn’t want that either.
Maybe it wasn’t so sensible to kick out the remainers, the true patriots and the common sense Tories after all. Because there is no way back without them.
Just another gift to history from Boris Johnson.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.

It is fascinating (in a macabre sort of way) just how much of an unmitigated disaster bojo was. Egocentric sociopathic politicians seem to be getting more numerous (or is that just me getting old and cynical?) and more popular, not a great combination
But Boris isn’t completely out of the picture for good - heaven help us.
