Jacob pulls up the ladder
Dear, oh dear, things are so bad that the government can’t afford to recruit any fast track civil servants this year.
Well, that is the story they are putting out, doubtless it is just part of their idealogical attack on the remoaner mandarins.
It is just another gift from Brexit. Brexit logic working as follows:
Brexit isn’t working.
Why not?
The civil servants don’t believe strongly enough in unicorns.
Destroy the civil service and then the unicorns will appear.
Which, thinking about it, means Brexit is some kind of medieval religious sect. One that makes the Salome witch trials look logical.
Also it has the great benefit of distraction politics. Look at those overpaid pen pushers, why should they have a pension when you can’t afford to feed your children?
To Brexiteers it both explains and hides their total failure.
Meanwhile Jacob Rees-Mogg will improve the civil service by recruiting fewer intelligent, qualified staff. Making it harder for the best to join, let alone reach the top. But they will be pure of heart and true believers, in unicorns, that is.
Good luck Jacob, jolly good luck.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
