Lord Frost has been offered a whole host of compromises that will oil the wheels of trade between Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
His response is to ignore the offers and demand the impossible, that the NIP be totally re-negotiated and the role of the ECJ be removed. Since the NIP was designed to protect the Good Friday Agreement and the Single Market; this is impossible.
Since this is the deal that the PM and Lord Frost negotiated, signed, got through Parliament and won an election on, the demands are shockingly cynical.
The demands are obviously designed to wreck the NIP and the consequences, if the UK doesn’t back down, will be to start a trade war and possibly far, far worse.
Lord Frost and the PM are playing with fire, for no greater purpose than to placate the ultras and have foreigners to blame for their own stupidity and incompetence.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
Is it "stupidity and incompetence" on the part of Frost and Johnson? Or, given the consistent pattern of behaviour, "malevolence"?
