Home truths
The Home Secretary can tell UKIP and the ERG what they want to hear in private but when she does so in public it matters.
Apparently the asylum seekers arriving at our shores can just be treated as illegal immigrants—no the law says they can’t.
They aren’t asylum seekers as they could have claimed asylum in France- the law says no.
The UK can just change the European Convention on Human Rights to sort this out- no it can’t.
The Home Secretary has a whole host of lawyers to tell her the truth, and if she was just saying this rubbish in private to tickle the fancy of the racist gammons that would be one thing. But as we are learning to our cost from the PM and the Chancellor, this government is perfectly willing to base policy and action on these invented “facts”.
They think introducing illegal and unworkable policies will work because they have knowledge of alternative facts that will make them work.
This has gone beyond “Let’s do something unworkable and them blame the Blob, lawyers or remainers, when it doesn’t work”.
As the Chancellor found out, facts and reality hit you in the face when your fantasies damage the economy and the country. But the ones who suffer are ordinary people not politicians.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
