Have some bones
I see the UK government is spinning the news that the PM was put up at Blair House by the US President as a sign of just how very, very special the UK’s relationship is.
So nothing about the Rose Garden, which is a pity but really this is grasping at straws, as is the new Atlantic Declaration with the US.
Remember, we were promised a full trade deal with the USA, even this would not have made up for the losses caused by leaving the EU, but it would have been very welcome. This so called declaration is nothing like a trade deal, it is warm words and small beer.
But it does at least show that Rishi Sunak has repaired some of the damage caused by Johnson, the Windsor Framework has worked, the White House has thrown the UK some bones as a reward.
The government is pathetically grateful for even that, as it should be; it lets the PM fight off the ERG for a little bit longer.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
