For Wales....
How mad must be Tory back benchers today? They were asked to try to save Owen Paterson and they held their noses and did just that.
Only to find out that the PM’s word is not to be trusted and he abandoned a drowning man once he had seen the headlines. He immediately scrambled to perform the most embarrassing and slimy U turn I can remember, leaving them all looking like, well like Mr Paterson.
Where does that leave the Tory party? It seems to have sold its soul for nothing, not even a 24 hour reprieve for someone it claimed to be innocent, or worthy of pity. Not even to reform what we were all told, was a parliamentary regulatory system not fit for purpose.
As Sir Thomas More says in A man for all seasons.
"For Wales? Why Richard, it profit a man nothing to give his soul for the whole world ... but for Wales!"
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
