Fog in Channel
When you hear that the Port of Dover is racing to put in place changes which will mean fewer delays for coach trips to the Continent, it raises your hopes.
Then you hear that the major part of the changes introduced is not more money, more facilities, more staff but fewer coach trips. Yes, the Port will deal with delays by allowing fewer coaches to use its facilities, it is turning away business because it cannot cope in a post Brexit world.
Just like Eurostar is failing to fill its trains, now Dover will cope by sending ferries out with fewer coaches.
And still we have the full introduction of those checks on goods coming into the UK to look forward to and the introduction of biometric checks on everyone going to the Continent.
The total failure of the government to negotiate a better deal or prepare for these well known problems has been utterly pathetic. All they can do is to try to blame the weather.
At this rate we will pretty soon be back to the 1930’s headline “Fog in Channel, continent isolated”. When in fact it is “Idiots in government, UK isolated.”
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
