Although it is fun seeing the Tory government tearing itself apart, it is now so bad that it is doing serious damage to the British economy and its reputation.
While Mr. Johnson is determined to bring the whole edifice down with him, in an act of petulant, childish egoism, the government has basically stopped governing.
MP’s go home early because they have no laws to pass, or business to discuss, recesses get longer, Friday is a day off.
Meanwhile interest rates are rising, mortgages soaring, food banks struggling. British companies are fleeing the City to float in New York, the economy is running out of workers and skills, water companies are running out of water. The NHS is crumbling before our eyes with huge delays at A+E and with far too few beds or staff, schools are underfunded, the rail network is a joke, the border delays are just going to get worse.
Any and all of these things should be the centre of the government’s agenda, many are solvable with some application and hard work, some new ideas and some common sense.
This is a government desperately hanging on in the hope that something will turn up that will allow it to win the next election. So they will delay it as long as they can, when they know full well they have no policies now and will have none after the election.
Every day they delay makes the poisoned chalice the winner of that election will inherit ever more poisonous and the government knows it.
People are suffering while the Tories argue over baubles and they don’t care.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
