Don't forget to sue, Sue.
I really cannot decide whether Sir Keir Starmer’s appointment of Sue Gray is stupid or brilliant.
I am tending towards the latter because the one thing it has done is take away attention from Rishi Sunak’s Windsor Framework which had the potential to make him look, sensible, statesmanlike and serious.
Now we have endless front pages where the swivel eyed loons claim they are the victims of a left wing conspiracy but which forces them to explain why they partied while thousands died alone.
They will be doing this constantly now and the Privileges Committee’s first session is weeks away. Meaning Boris Johnson’s lies will be a top news story for weeks, if not months.
The Tories will also have to explain how the PM admitted to the police that he broke the law, when he was apparently completely innocent but somehow trapped into a false confession by the facts. Or, why they all said that Sue Gray was beyond reproach, when the Permanent Secretary had to recluse himself from the enquiry because he had held a party too.
Also, as an aside, it seems fairly obvious to me that many of the conspiracy theory allegations are extremely libellous, and have been made and repeated outside the House of Commons.
If you wanted to keep the story going, a series of grovelling apologies, admissions that Sue Gray was right all along and is above reproach, plus huge payouts to food bank charities would work.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
