Listening to the sanctimonious, oh so reasonable, I am changing politics for the better, pathetic, self justification of the PM yesterday, was painful.
Watering down and reversing years of consensus on global warming and trying to pass it off as a real concern for the poor, and the ability of the government to deliver on carbon reducing policies, was sickening.
But even more so is the blatant attempt to set the agenda for the next election. The Tories obviously plan to run on “We will save you 5, 10, or 15 thousand pounds a year, Labour will force you to find the money, force you to car share with vegetarians etc.”
It may well work, I have never been as convinced as others that the Tories were doomed to defeat.
The right wing media will spend the next six months or so printing scare stories about the costs of green policies, extolling new “sensible politics”. The main stream media will do its usual act of trying to give each side of the argument equal time and equal validity.
It may well work.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.

Agreed. There’s only one poll that matters.
