Defying gravity
I can no better than to refer you to the excellent speech given by Adam Posen yesterday to The UK in a changing Europe (you can find it on You Tube.)
His basic points are very clear and worrying for the UK.
His analysis of the damage that Brexit has done and will continue to do is damning. The UK is trying to defy gravity by believing it can float free of Europe.
His explanation of how the UK is now less open and attractive, not more; should be understood by all policy makers.
And his ending point that there is no substitute for the UK but to start moving towards an EFTA like soft Brexit, to be like Switzerland or Norway, is obvious.
None of it will happen under this government.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
