Danker at Davos
The speech by the head of the CBI Tony Danker at Davos, only seems to have been covered in the Daily Telegraph, which is odd. Because they wouldn’t have liked what he had to say.
He basically said that there was very little reason for foreigners to invest in the UK, that they are pulling money out of the country and there is a complete lack of economic leadership. Basically the UK is now a backwater which is being ignored and by-passed.
In the past this would have been headline news but major news organisations ignored it, maybe because they know he is whistling in the wind, the government has been refusing to listen to business organisations for years now.
Basically the business organisations are telling the government that their policies are damaging, stupid and the opposite of what they want. The so-called party of business just doesn’t want to hear this , some of its members are so arrogant they think they knows better, the rest know that they have to push on with their mad cap policies or the ERG and Nigel Farage will come for them.
This is no way to run a whelk stall, let alone a highly developed economy. It is suicidally stupid and damaging.
Yet we still have hours of coverage of “levelling up” when it is a farcically small amount compared to previous cuts and has been largely spent in tory constituencies, and nothing on a speech by the head of the country’s largest business organisation telling the world that his country is a basket case.
The government may not listen to the CBI but we should because the world does.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
