Dangerous times
The news that the PM thinks that dangerous times lie ahead, is not really news. All politicians like to do that Churchillian stare, and claim that “only they” can see the future and guide the nation safely to its destination. Jim Hacker used to do it all the time.
The trouble for the vast majority of politicians is that they are in no way Churchillian. Rishi Sunak is about the least Churchillian PM I can remember, except for Liz Truss, Boris Johnson, Theresa May and David Cameron.
The idea that this government and this PM and no one else can save the country from AI, or Russia is a joke. Not least because the complete hollowing out of our armed forces and our international reputation and influence has been achieved by the Tory party.
Apparently even our special forces are now below strength, they no longer have a big enough pool to recruit from. Cutting pay and conditions for service men and women while wrapping yourself in the flag, is not a recipe for success.
Presiding over the most inept, useless administration since the last Tory one and then claiming that only you can save the nation is just posturing.
Do voters look at Rishi Sunak and see a safe pair of hands? Really?
It is as Sir Humphrey would have said a “Brave” decision. It really shouldn’t be.
Having a safe pair of hands should be a minimum requirement for the top job. But do you really want to draw attention to the question of whether you do have them or not?
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
