Cowards will kill us
I awake to the news that climate change is getting worse and no one is doing enough to stop it. The idea that we can or are willing to do what is necessary to keep the rise in temperatures to below 1.5 degrees is a joke.
So what has the UK government done? Last week it froze the increase in fuel duty again, at a cost of £5 billion and untold environmental damage, the 11th freeze in a row, the cumulative cost is more than £50 billion- no wonder the government is broke.
If that was not shameful enough, the Chancellor’s calculations on how he will balance his budget in the long run is dependent on, yes you guessed it, increasing fuel duty; which of course he is too scared to do.
Even the car industry is warning low fuel prices damage the move to electric vehicles.
And there you have it; political cowardice which means we can’t even increase taxes when the government desperately needs the money and it might just save the world.
If you can’t act now on this what is the point? Let us just say global climate change will happen, we won’t stop it, we have not even bothered to try, it is not a vote winner and we value winning elections over saving the planet.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.
