Covid in Channel Continent isolated
There is an awful lot being written and broadcast about how the block on lorries from the UK crossing to the continent, is a sure sign of what Brexit will involve. This is both right and wrong.
The real worry of Brexit is not a blockade (that is not going to happen) but delays so bad that people and firms will either be hamstrung by the logistical nightmare, stop bothering or hike their prices enormously. Therefore the most worrying comment I have seen so far is from a continental delivery firm that said “why would we send drivers and trucks to the UK, when we don’t know how or when they will return.”
Now think about those portaloos on the M20 and the massive lorry parks in Kent and the queues caused every time the French even test the post Brexit regulations. Also the computer systems aren’t ready, there aren’t enough trained staff and there are reams of new paper work for every lorry driver next month.
The Government’s own experts warned of this, now we can tell their predictions are right. Unfortunately just 2 weeks ahead of time, so too late to change anything.
