Mighty New Zealand the antipodean superpower which the UK has abandoned the EU for is, it seems, closer to Europe than previously thought.
While we have a land border with the EU, NZ is even closer, having negotiated membership of the EU’s Horizon programme, something this know nothing government has yet to manage.
The PM is apparently weighing it carefully in the balance. Does he rejoin Horizon, the multi billion pound Europe and beyond research system, or go it alone.
Here are some hints to help him make up his mind.

The UK always took out more in research grants than it paid in, so made a profit.
The EU wants the UK’s excellent higher education system back in.

Even the Kiwis have worked this one out and they are on the other side of the world.
But then there are 20 or so Tory Brexit gammon MPs who might make a fuss, so it is really hanging in the balance.
A tough call for the PM this one, you wouldn’t want to be in his shoes, the buck stops with him, this is what he is paid the big money for, to make the tough calls and shoulder the responsibility.
I am sure he is in all our thoughts and prayers.
Economics, trade and Brexit, not necessarily in that order but the dog always comes first.

The current PM is certainly in my prayers - but for a whole bundle of very different reasons and with entreaties for some very different outcomes. The next PM (I hope) is also being fervently prayed for
